Very randomly I happened upon this TEXTURED TEAL OPENING CEREMONY DRESS from their Fall / Winter 2013 collection. I really liked the color and as life would have it, I happen to be a sucker for a ruffle. THIS BLUEISH GREEN COLOR is thought to have taken its name from the small freshwater Common Teal, a member of the duck family whose eyes are surrounded by the color. I paired this frock with my black suede WALTER STEIGER OSCAR BOOTIES and a MULTI CHAIN NECKLACE that I picked up from a BCBG store last summer. I also wore my BALENCIAGA TRIPLE TOUR black leather and pony skin bracelet with silver hardware. In the way of Balenciaga bracelets, it is an extremely classic choice; it is done every season in multiple hues and fabrications. It was a small emotional purchase that came in a little white box lined in black velvet.
These pictures were taken in front of a temporary art installation in Midtown titled Park Avenue Paper Chase. It is a series of 7 painted aluminum ribbon like sculptures that reside along the avenue. This particular one is located between 52nd and 53rd streets and is called Maelstrom; a Scandinavian word meaning a very powerful whirlpool. The massive piece of art stretches nearly 70 feet down the middle of the avenue. The artist, Alice Aycock stated that, "Much of the energy of the city is invisible. It is the energy of thought and ideas colliding and being transmitted outward."
These sculptures are essentially a visual representation of that energy. Immediately, I thought about how Fashion is this super force of energy in my life and how it manifests itself in the form of my outfit choices. It seems very clear to me that Fashion and art go hand in hand.
